Family run

Alex and Leanne Ross

Pink and blue slips

Done on site

Open five days

Monday to Thursday 8:00am to 5:00pm, Friday 8:00am to 4:00pm. Ring first if it is urgent and we will tell you straight whether we can fit you in.

On the main road

191 Cessnock Road, Weston. Easy to pull into, plenty of room in the yard, and about ten minutes from Cessnock or Kurri Kurri.

One shed, most jobs

Servicing, exhausts, brakes, tyres, air con and inspections under the one roof, so you are not driving the car to three different places.

What we do

Most of what a car needs, in the one yard.

It started as a muffler and exhaust shop and grew from there. Today it is a general workshop that still does exhaust work properly, which is rarer than it sounds.

Not sure what it needs? Ring and describe the noise. That is usually enough to know whether it is a five minute look or a day in the shed.

    Logbook and general servicing

Scheduled servicing for everyday cars, utes and 4WDs, all makes and models. Plenty of jobs go in and come back the same day, and you get told up front if yours will not.

  • 02

    Exhausts and mufflers

The trade this workshop started in. Repairs, replacements and welding done on site, so a blown exhaust does not automatically mean waiting days on a part.

  • 03

    Pink slips

NSW safety inspections for a registered vehicle, done while you get the rest of the service sorted in the same visit.

  • 04

    Blue slips

Unregistered vehicle inspections, for cars coming in from interstate or back on the road after time off it. The sign out the front is not decoration.

  • 05

    Brakes

Pads, discs and the full brake system checked and replaced properly, because it is the one job nobody should be shopping on price for.

  • 06

    Tyres and wheel alignment

Tyres supplied and fitted from the racks out the front, plus alignments to stop a new set wearing out early.

  • 07

    Air conditioning

Diagnosis and repair when the air con has gone warm, compressors included. Worth sorting before a Hunter Valley summer, not during one.

  • 08

    Auto electrical repairs

Starter motors, lights and the electrical faults that turn a car into an ornament in the driveway.

  • 09

    Engine and major mechanical work

Big jobs handled in house, including sourcing a good second hand engine when a replacement makes more sense than a rebuild.

  • 10

    Diagnostics

A proper look before anything gets replaced. More than one customer has arrived with a dealership verdict that turned out to be wrong.

Older cars, work utes and 4WDs all welcome. If it is something we do not take on, we will say so rather than have a go at it.

Inspections

Pink slips and blue slips, both done here.

Two different jobs that get confused constantly. Here is the plain version, and we do both, so you are not sent somewhere else halfway through.

Pink slip

Your rego is due

The safety inspection a registered vehicle needs before you can renew. Book it in alongside a service and the car only comes off the road once.

Blue slip

The car is unregistered

For a vehicle coming in from interstate, one that has been off the road a while, or one that needs a fuller check before it can be registered again in NSW.

Ring ahead for an inspection so we can put time aside for it rather than fit it around whatever is already up on the hoist.

Our story

Same family, same corner, twenty six years.

Alex and Leanne Ross have run this business as a family partnership since March 2000. It opened as a muffler and exhaust shop and traded that way for years before it took the Alex Ross Automotive name in 2004 and grew into the general workshop it is now.

That history is still why people turn up. Exhaust work is a specialist habit rather than something picked up along the way, and it is done on site, so a snapped pipe can be sorted here rather than sent away and waited on.

The rest is straightforward. Cars from Weston, Kurri Kurri, Abermain and Cessnock, a good number of them coming back year after year, and a fair few sent here by word of mouth from someone who has already had a good run out of the place.

The yard

What you will see when you pull in.

Two sheds, bays that are usually open, tyres on the rack out the front and room to park off the road while you sort things out at the counter.

I can't thank Alex enough for squeezing me in on such a busy Monday morning. I was stressed about my car, and he was kind, took the time and genuinely helped me out. Very grateful!

Alex ross automotive is a fantastic family run business. Easy to deal with very fair pricing and great workmanship. They really saved me after Jeep newcastle wanted $30,000 for a new engine. Alex lined up a second hand unit for a really good drive away price. While they were getting ready to change it out they noticed that Jeeps diagnosis of the problem was very wrong! And only had to replace air conditioning compressor, starter motor and a few other pieces. Overall I'm very happy and grateful for this mechanic shop and all that work there! THANKS!

I was referred to Alex by some guys in Cessnock. Rolled in there with a snapped exhaust pipe near manifold. The team had it welded up and fixed within 60 min. Also replaced a rear light too. Some of the best customer service I've had with mechanics. Considering I needed to drive another 1200km to get home, I was in a spot and these guys helped me out. Very good place!
